Did you know a World War II German war machine had just been found in Poland?
The newly recovered Bergepanther

You can still find new relics of World War II in Central and Eastern Europe. Polish experts from the Panzer Farm Museum and the POMOST Historical and Archaeological Research Studio had just recovered a German Bergepanther recovery vehicle from the Czarna Nida river in central Poland a few days ago.

The area was known to hide German vehicles left behind after the Battle of Lisów in January 1945. Two Panthers have been found before, in 1990 and 2003. The new discovery also includes the remains of a Panzer IV (Read our earlier article) and an SD.Kfz. 251 halftrack.
 
The Bergepanther was a recovery vehicle designed to tow away immobilized Panther and Tiger tanks, which were too heavy for Germany’s regular recovery vehicles. Towing a tank with another tank was prohibited, as it risked losing both vehicles; Bergepanthers and the even rarer Bergetigers were designed to perform the job safely. The vehicle was essentially a Panther tank with the turret missing and replaced by a structure holding a powerful winch and a crane boom.
